In Kwathi ke Kaloku, Sindiwe Magona, multi-award winning and internationally recognised storyteller, author, poet, playwright, teacher, civil servant and activist, performs a combination of two of her well-known children’s tales, The Best Meal Ever! and Stronger than Lion. She is joined by two experienced actors who have performed in various local and international productions. Sivuyile Dunjwa and Thami Baba’s physical portrayal of the characters and plot is exciting with hilarious moments, all done in beautiful acting, dialogue and song. This production will entertain primary school kids between the ages of 6 – 13, although some older and younger kids will also be able to enjoy it. It is a family drama and classroom theatre for learners and teachers. The production is a theatrical celebration of traditional Xhosa stories and music and its purpose is to create healthy entertainment for children who do not enjoy an abundance of educational programmes or creative resources in their communities. It will entertain and educate children in their mother tongue through the power of the imagination and in turn preserve and document the rich isiXhosa tradition of storytelling as well as the wealth of indigenous isiXhosa songs.
