The Eye of Rre Mutwa

Shmerah Passhier, Patricia Boyers, Albert Ibokwe Khoza (The Afrocyborg Collective)

This virtual reality short film is an Afrofuturist exploration of African cyborg identities, inspired by the mythical beings in Credo Mutwa’s writing. In this film, the viewer is teleported into the centre of The All Seeing Eye, which sees through space and time, transporting Albert Ibokwe Khoza and Patricia Boyer through history to unravel a rebirth of sight. Shortly before the world was consumed by COVID19 and two days after the country went into lockdown, healer, prophet and artist Vusamazulu Credo Mutwa died.

ABOUT THE ARTISTS

Albert ‘Ibokwe’ Khoza is an actor, singer, dancer, choreographer and performance artist. He has recently returned from Paris, France where he worked with Robin Orlin.

Patricia Boyer is a veteran of performance in television, film and theatre. She is also a Performance Director on Rhythm City, and best known for her role in the prison series, Lockdown, on Mzansi Magic.

Shmerah Passchier is a lecturer and filmmaker. Her work includes a documentary on Nelson Mandela & the End of Apartheid for the Museum of the African Diaspora in San Francisco. Shmerah has an MFA in filmmaking, an MA in Anthropology & she is currently reading for a PhD in Virtual Reality at Wits.
