The National Arts Festival is an important event on the South African cultural calendar, and the biggest annual celebration of the arts on the African continent. An independent Section 21 company, it has an unrivalled reputation as the leading African showcase of local and international creativity. Spanning 11 days and across 90-odd different venues in its home city of Makhanda in the Eastern Cape, the Festival enjoys strong participation from artists from all of South Africa’s nine provinces as well as a number of international artists and audiences visiting South Africa.
In a first in the history of the National Arts Festival, the 46th edition is going digital for the full 11 days of Amazing – from 25 June to 5 July 2020. Given the serious considerations of the coronavirus pandemic, this year’s Festival will be held completely online.
